Of Phone-Calls and Long-Time-Coming Kisses
for Em ✿ because she’s one my strongest and most admirable friends and she needs lots of love in fic form in her life right now (
you know what i mean)
“C’mon, open up!”
Dean barely manages to get the key in the lock before he fumbles in his attempt to open the door to his apartment. Maybe he should invest in a new lock after all, this one has already cost him two keys, some hairpins (no judging, he keeps them for exactly this reason) and a lot of nerves on the not so rare occasion he’s forgotten his keys. It doesn’t vouch for the safety the lock provides, but his alcohol-addled brain doesn’t find this particularly concerning.
After drunkenly stumbling past his couch and almost tripping over it, he reaches his bedroom and flops down on the mattress that serves as his bed - it’s quite enough, really, he doesn’t sleep all that much anyway.
With a groan he gets up again and divests himself of his clothes, only to make a grab for his jeans again, nearly toppling over to face-plant into the carpet. He’d lost count of how many shots he’d actually knocked back after the first four or five, but it must’ve been a lot to have him staggering around like this. He can hold his liquor damn well, thank you very much.
Dean’s been cutting back on the drinking for a while now, but after the day he’s had he’d decided he deserved a night with good old Jack and Jim at the Roadhouse. Although he had intended it to be more cheerful than it turned out to be. Slumping over Ellen’s bar top with a sullen scowl, only to be mocked by Jo, isn’t exactly Dean’s idea of a fun night out.
Finally, he gets a good grip on his jeans and begins searching for his phone. Damn thing shouldn’t be that hard to find but locating the right pocket of his pants is like finding a hidden treasure chest in the state he’s in.
It’s Castiel’s 16th birthday when the first tattoo appears. He’s not doing anything, he’s actually hiding in his room after being publicly embarrassed by his older siblings. It’s about midnight and the skin starts to tingle, a sign his family warned him about. Looking down at his wrist he sees as the ink becomes stronger and stronger, forming a handwritten ‘Dean’ over his veins with very little pain. He knows now who he has to find, one day.
The second tattoo appears during his graduation ceremony (something he didn’t want to go to), right after he sits down after getting his diploma. He doesn’t get a chance to look at it until he’s finally home and alone and when he does, it’s nothing extremely important, just a bluebird on his shoulder. Whatever that means.
The third appears when he’s in his senior year of college working an odd job at a department store. He’s helping a rather horrible customer when his arm gets the tingle, he shoos the customer away to another sales clerk and pulls up his sleeve, reading a bible verse he used to repeat to himself whenever times were bad. Like when Micheal and Lucifer attacked each other and tried to kill the whole family in the process, or when the kids would beat him up in school for the fact his soulmate’s name wasn’t a girl, or that time he was walking down an alley and he fended two guys off of him.
The last tattoo comes when Castiel Novak is 31. He’s said fuck it to the career he went to college for and has joined any amount of social help he can, whether food kitchens or building houses in Haiti, or handing out hats in NYC. He’s trying to heal the broken world and he’s accepted that he isn’t the best but he’s not the worst. He’s helping making bagged lunches for the homeless in Chicago when his friend, Jo Harvelle, says her friend is coming to help. Castiel pushes it to the side of his mind, Jo had a lot of friends. That is of course, until he hears her scream “DEAN”. His head shoots up and he watches as Jo tackles a tall man with freckle covered skin and the greenest eyes Castiel has ever seen. He feels the tingle on his back now, only on the right half, and he watches as Dean shrugs Jo off of his left shoulder before giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"Dean, I want you to meet someone!" Jo calls again, grabbing his hands and bringing him towards Castiel, a Castiel who has stood in shock, half wrapped sandwich in his hand for the last minute. "This is my best friend, Castiel!"
It’s time for Dean to be floored, his eyes widening as he looks at Castiel. “Uhhh….” He says holding on his hand for Castiel to shake it, “Hi, I’m Dean.”
In that moment everything is solidified, this is the man Castiel is going to love for the rest of his life, and Dean will do the same for him.
So they spend the rest of the day packing the lunches and talking, and when Cas mentions he has a new tattoo he hasn’t checked out, Dean says the same. They both travel into the bathroom and low and behold, each one has a wing on one side of their back, connecting them together. “This is the most corniest shit I’ve ever seen.”
"Make sure not to tell Sam than" Castiel muses, blushing slightly because there is no doubt what this means.
The moment they’re done with the lunches they go out to eat, and well… the rest is tattooed history.

Dean Winchester and Castiel Novak have been best friends for as long as either of them can remember. And all that time, they’ve been in love - the catch? They both think it’s unrequited.
That all changes the summer they turn 17. Beaches and carnivals and kisses shared in the sunlight - but will the dream end when September comes?
I really want cas to dress himself up all pretty in blue lace panties, all covered with pretty white satin bows
and I want him to tie a thick, white satin ribbon around his pretty hips, the giant bow sitting in the small of his back
and maybe some white fishnets for his long,…
Dean always wondered what it would look like if a hurricane combined with a tornado.
He figured that this disastrous combination would be nothing but a swirling, dark mass of incredibly fast winds and torrential downpours that would demolish an entire city caught in it’s path.
Dean + being a dork
I just know that once Dean kisses Cas for the first time, he won’t be able to stop himself from kissing Cas all the time.
Cas will be just standing at the kitchen sink, washing the dishes from dinner when Dean comes up behind him, snaking his arms around Cas’s waist and pressing…
